Jeepers

First of all....HAPPY EASTER!!!

Second of all. I love the word "jeepers" and I find it appropriate for my blog post today.

One of my favorite parts of the Disney movie Hercules is where Pain or Panic (I don't know who is who) says, "Jeepers mister, you sure are strong." Also I like the scene where they are wearing Hercules's merchandise and Hades gets really angry. My brothers and I used to act that scene out ALL THE TIME = lots and lots and lots of giggling.

But seriously.... JEEPERS.

Tomorrow is the day people. I find out about my internships. Yes I'm nervous. Yes I'm excited. Yes I'm thrilled. Yes I'm terrified. Oddly enough I'm quite calm about it though. It'll be nice to finally know whether I got one or not. I didn't have one to begin with so it's not like I've lost anything. I just want to know. Whew. I'm SURE tomorrow I'll start to get the jitters, increased heart rate, sweaty palms, nauseous feeling. Joy.

This past week has been HADES. A test on research methods meaning....stats, research design, types of data analysis.

Gag me with a spork.

But I did ok so I was pleased BUT then I had a clinical worksheet and those assignments take HOURS to do. Then I had a research proposal to do and that took hours too. Basically stressful week. I've been grumpy, grouchy, moody, snappy, and feisty. And for the first time ever in my life I didn't have Easter dinner. Sad huh? I'm not really bothered by it to be honest, but it is rather sad. Instead I was sitting on my couch typing up a Literature Review and looking through 10-11 journal articles on calcium supplementation and blood pressure.

BUT.....

I was watching OPENING DAY FOR THE RED SOX!!!!!

AGAINST THE YANKEES!!!!!!!!!

AT FENWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AND WE WON!!!!!

And Steven Tyler sang 'God Bless America'....gave me chills, and no not because it's Steven Tyler who, let's be honest, is a TAD creepy. It was just SO cool. That song, at Fenway, Opening Day, against the Yankees. Gotta love it.

And Neil Diamond sang "Sweet Caroline", as tradition, before the end of the 8th inning. At this moment I would have given just about anything to have been there.

Eh hem. I may or may not LOVE baseball. And Boston. And the Red Sox. No but really, watching the Red Sox at Fenway made me miss Boston soooooo much. Nothing like a good 'ole rivalry game at Fenway to open up the season. A sweet victory. Youkilis rocked. *sigh* I miss it.

And to only add to my love for Boston, the Celtics beat the Cavaliers. HA! Take that Lebron!!!

This week: DOOMSDAY aka I find out about internships at 5pm MST TOMORROW. I also have a LOOOAD of homework to do, presentations to prepare for, a tournament basketball game on Wednesday and Thursday (I'm being optimistic that we'll win on Wednesday), jobs to search for, graduation to prepare for. Geez the end of the semester is stressful.

BUT it's almost over! April is here! Spring is in the air (let's just hope it doesn't snow...again)

I am TICKED

If you don't already know, I'm an avid sports fan. My two favorite teams to watch are the Red Sox and the Boston Celtics. I'm very passionate about my sports and my teams. You'd have to be from New England, preferably the Boston area to really understand what being a fan of these teams is like. I should also mention that basketball is by far and large my most favorite sport. That all being said, tonight's game 6 at Chicago was an atrocity.
I have never witnessed a more biased game in my life. From the AWFUL refs to the horrid commentators, it was quite clear who they wanted to win. That's not professional; that's not fair; that's not right. I'm sick of this underdog phenomenon that people, particularly the young, naive, stupid people are going through. What ever happened to cheering for the team that is the best and deserves to win?!?!?! Huh?! Tell me please! Yes the Bulls are doing quite well against the Celtics...without KG and with the help of the referees! I know blaming the refs is typically a cop out complaint, but DID YOU SEE THAT GAME?!?!?!? Allen was CLEARLY behind the 3 point line. The game was as good as done. Oh and let's pause for a moment to chat about the horrendous media. They too are biased (aren't they always)! Yes of course it was Celtics player, Rondo, who flagrantly threw his elbow. The Bulls guy had nothing to do it and heaven forbid a Bulls' player do something naughty. ARE YOU BLIND!?!?! ARE YOU!? OPEN YOUR EYES!
I could go on about steroid use (*cough* A-Rod, er A-fraud *cough*) and how all these supposed all-stars are actually fake, but I have steam coming out my ears from the Celtics game and I need to go to bed. I'm emotionally drained.
I'll end with this. Game 7 is in Boston. That's a death sentence for the Bulls, one I can't wait to deliver. You think the Bulls fans were bad, well, you ain't seen nothing yet. We'll take what was rightfully ours tonight on Saturday. Here we go!

sunday scribblings: sports

Um, how about sports? To follow up on last week's "Art" with something very different. Sports: love em? Hate em? Forced to do em as a kid? Serious athlete? Fanatic about watching/playing? Any experiences stand out in your memory?

First I must laugh. This is the post for me! I LOVE SPORTS!!!! Seriously, I love watching, playing, and talking about sports. I wish I had done more sports as a kid. But I didn't, oh well. I am a basketball player however, and it is my favorite sport to both watch and play. Really I could go on for forever about sports but I'll spare you all the torture.
My favorite team of all time has got to be the Red Sox. This topic alone I could go on forever about but I'll attempt to keep it short.
If you are a Red Sox fan--a legit one not one of those band wagoners--you can empathize with me about what being a BoSox fan really is like. It's painful and exciting. It hurts and it makes you soar. There's an unspoken loyalty to the Red Sox that only the true fan understands. Ever seen the movie "Fever Pitch"? Well, that main character is an INSANE fan and I thought it was awesome. I'm not at that level (i.e. I don't have towels, blankets, shower curtains, phones, bed sheets, pillows, and all that Red Sox decorum), but I do love, love, LOVE watching the Sox play. Plus Fenway park is one of the most incredible parks ever. The people, the atmosphere, the smells, the history (Pesky's Pole, the Green Monstah, Sweet Caroline, I could go on..). It's just amazing. Plus, walking by Fenway Park, it gets abosrbed in the neighborhood which I love. It's part of Boston. It's not some insanely huge, sparkling metal structure. It's antique and beautiful. I love everything about it. I took my mom to her first game last summer and it was so fun. Inside the stadium, we're one big family. Truely, it rocks. Pick up a book by David Halberstam. He's an excellent writer and an even better sports writer particularly about the Sox. Just check him out.
I'm also a Celtics fan. I know what you're thinking. Just because they are the champs and are hot right now. WRONG. I've been a fan since '97. Granted it was when I was moving to the east but I was never a huge fan of the Jazz (Bulls allllllll the way! MJ will always be my hero). Anyways, Paul Pierce rocks and Rondo is an up and coming talent. The whole team is amazing. I've not seen the Celtics play before but I'd love to go. Again, it just goes back to rooting for a team through their ups and downs. I love it.
Anyways, I'll stop here because I really could go on for forever. I love sports so very much!
