sunday scribblings: pilgrimage

Is there something you'd like, in your lifetime, to go far to see? It can be a quirky personal journey to do with your hobbies or interests, or something very serious, meaningful, and/or spiritual.

I have this fascination, borderline obsession, with Europe. I know it's a tad cliché but it's the truth. Have you ever had a weird connection with a place, as though if you just go there you believe you'll find out something about yourself that you just cannot find out any place else? Well, that's how I feel about Europe. My pilgrimage would be to spend 3-4 months through Europe to discover more about me. (Specifically: Italy, France, Belgium, Germany, Scotland, Ireland, and Switzerland).

I am truthfully in love with everything Europe has to offer: the history, the architecture (and its history!), art, culture, manners, ideals, morals, food, life in general. I guess I'm in love with the idea (and research) that Europeans are not such workaholics like Americans. The thought of enjoying life, the simple, little things is incredibly appealing (can you blame me?). Don't get me wrong, I love America and always will, but I just feel like I need to experience Europe. I just have to. So, that's my pilgrimage dream: to travel to those countries (without a cell phone, laptop, pager, etc.; just me and my camera and a friend or two) and to just experience all that the countries have to offer.

I've been looking at you and your lovely lively friends. You'll have them for life, I'm sure. When I was young I hitchhiked all over Europe with two friends who are still in my life.
