Books and such

"A library is not a luxury but one of the necessities of life." -Henry Ward Beecher

Amen.

I love to read. I "binge read" during the summers because it's the one opportunity I have to escape textbooks. I read all sorts of books and at any one time I'm typically in the process of reading anywhere from 3 to 5 books. I'm the type of person who can spend hours in a book store just browsing, reading, thumbing through, daydreaming. I love books. I have dozens in my room. My bookcase is too small for all of my books and I often wander into to our library to see if my mom has a good book hidden in one of the shelves. Books are wonderful. My favorites are children's books (I plan to write one or a few someday), mysteries, cheesy romances like Shopaholic series/Little Lady Agency books, sports books (I just read one about Michael Jordan by David Halberstam.....excellent!!!), and books about Italians; yes that's right. Italian families, Italian history, Italian food. I love Italy. And France. Actually I lied. I don't have favorites persay since I'll give anything a try. I just love to read! There are 2 things I feel no remorse or pain in spending money on: shoes and books.

Currently I'm reading...

The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls (a tad depressing but also fascinating)

The Little Lady Agency by Hester Browne (thank you Ruthie! I'm hooked!)

Big Cherry Holler by Adriana Trigiani (excellent author! I highly recommend her book Rococo-it's one of my favs! Think Italian families, fun recipes, and a good laugh)

Betsy and Tacy Over the Big Hill by Maud Hart Lovelace (a favorite series of mine from my childhood)

And I just finished The Girl with No Shadow by Joanna Harris (it's the sequel to Chocolat (the movie is based on the book and stars Johnny Depp, aaah yes, now you know what I'm talking about!). I LOVED this book. Chocolat was a good read but the sequel is much better, at least I think. I couldn't put it down. I finished it in about 2 1/2 days. Go read them. Now. Chocolate, romance, Europe, mystery. What more could you ask for?!

Other good things to be cheery about:
-Went to Newburyport today with my mom into the British shop and got a Mars Bar. Yum!

-This weekend the sun is supposed to come out. I miss the sun. June was not a good month for us New Englanders. I think we had maybe 3 sunny days or partially sunny days or days when the sun made a guest appearance. I have forgotten what it feels like to be hot. I want heat, humidity, and summer. I am so tired of rain and cold and wet. I miss the sun. Please, please, please COME BACK!!!!

-One of my best friends in the world is now married and I got to be there! She's a Mrs., a Sadie (Sadie, Sadie married lady! Funny Girl-anyone? anyone? Come on! It's Streisand!), a bride all her life (Seven Brides for Seven Brothers-childhood fav!). It was marvelous! And I got to visit with old friends (Nime time!) whom I miss very much!

-I went to Boothaby Harbor, Maine (lobster capital FYI) last weekend and it was the best vacation that I have had in years! I didn't think of work or home or this, that, and the other thing. True bliss. It rained for most of the vacation but I didn't care. I have fallen in love with this area. I must go back and vacation again. No, not must; I will. You should too!

-Today I was offered a job while I was at work. I was pretty dang flattered.

-I am going to go watch a movie and sip hot chocolate (Ghirardelli Hazelnut..mmmm.....) and read.

-I get to "kidsit" in a few weeks and I am planning a sweet surprise and I cannot wait! I can't wait to have kids. We're going to have so much fun.
