And I Was Like Baby, Baby, Baby

Gabe's Guilty Pleasure #58: "Baby" by Justin Bieber ft. Ludacris.

Photo here

I know, I know, I know. The Biebs? Really Gabe, really? I can't help it! I can't. The song came on the radio today as I was driving home and I pumped up the volume, sung along, and had a jam sesh with the Biebs. It was a blast. I'm not a Bieber fan, I'm not. Really. But I do enjoy a couple of his songs. "Baby" reminds me of my senior year at BYU when my girls Beca, Linds, and I would have dance parties in my apartment until 3am practicing our dance moves and brushing up on our break dancing skills. We were pretty legit (Uhhhhhhh.....). We can stall and c-walk, among other things. Legit. (burst out laughing now)
Inspired by this experience, I have created a playlist in my iTunes entitled, "Guilty Pleasures." Arists included are the Biebs and Spice Girls. Don't judge.

It feels like summer here and ohmylantus I love it!!! I stepped out this morning and I felt it: HUMIDITY. YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! As I drove home from work it was beautiful out. It smelled like summer, I had my windows down, and it was just wonderful. Then the Biebs came on and I was so happy I hardly knew what to do. Blissful.

I had a fantastic day at work. I really love my job. I'm sorry if you get tired of my professing my love of my job but I do. Better than listening to me hating it right?!?! I thought so! I got to do a few educations by myself today and I thoroughly enjoy working with the patients. I even documented by myself and got to fill out my snazzy productivity sheet and send fun e-mails to my HR manager abotu the Patriots win-ha! Great day. Also I was educating a patient and his wife and then they told me I was cute and started asking me questions. I knew what was coming:
How old are you? 24.
Ooooh! Are you from here? No, I'm from New England.
Why did you move here? Somewhere new. Because I can. I thought it would be a fun adventure!
Oh. Well, are you married? Do you have a boyfriend? No. [Told ya it was coming]
WHAT?! YOU DON'T! Nope.
But you are so cute!! Well, don't you worry. We have a grandson...
So back to those sources of quality protein....This is the second time this has happened to me. Funny and very amusing. I couldn't help but smile as I walked out of the room.

I think I ate something weird or I have hand sanitizer residue in my mouth because everything I eat tastes off, bitter, and gross. Sad. I love food. I hope this is very temporary because this is distressing. But I addressed my mid-afternoon snack attack with a yogurt and a 20oz DC. Problem solved. Not a hunger pain to be felt at 5pm. Whabam!

And since I didn't watch a movie, I think maybe I'll start one tonight. Or just watch Big Bang Theory. Gosh I adore Sheldon.

I accept.

I HAVE A JOB!!!!

Yes, I am now an employed, contributing member of society as a clinical dietitian in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina. *excited giggles

I have been dying to blog about this since my last post but decided to keep things to myself until I had some concrete information to share.

Here's the scoop.
Washington DC interview---horrid. I was terribly unimpressed. The manager who interviewed me practically discouraged me from the job from the get go. Either she hates her job or really doesn't want to hire someone because her attitude was terrible. I will choose not to work for someone like you. I am supposed to hear back from them...sometime??...but whatev.

But that's not what you want to read about is it?!

Friday I was up at 4am and to the Boston airport by 6:30am to hop on a plane to Myrtle Beach. Arrived at noon, stepped outside to a delicious 65 degrees and a view that blew me away. 65 degrees. In December. And there are TREES AND WATER nearby!??? Perfection. Like the environment-check! The clinical manager kindly offered to show me around the entire day including a tour of the 2 hospitals which make up the hospital system they work for. But first....
Myrtle Beach. Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you Ocean Boulevard.

My initial thought was, it looks like the Miami screen shots from "Burn Notice." I've never been to Myrtle Beach, and it being the off season and all, it wasn't exactly hopping but it was really, really cool. It reminded me of Hampton Beach, but on Barry Bonds-worthy steroids (ZING!).

And a straight shot south brought us to Murrells Inlet.
I toured the hospital I would be working at, which was impressive. Cute, cozy, small, but nice. Not too big but not too small. Nice hospital--check. I met the dietitians and immediately felt at ease with them. The dietitians are fairly young, most in their 20s like me so that was comforting. Many are transplants so I wouldn't be the odd ball and for most this is their first job. Awesome. So basically we're all in the same boat! Yay! Basically, I was sold. Good group of people who I instantly feel comfortable joking around with and working with--check.

Next stop, the second hospital in Georgetown. Quick visit to the second hospital where I would be cross-covering. Quick interview with the department head aaaaand we're off! The clinical manager took me to dinner with one of the other dietitians and it was a blast. Very comfortable. We laughed, we joked, I felt like I have known these women for years. After dinner, we headed back to the airport and on the way the manager said she unofficially wanted to offer me the position. Naturally, I was THRILLED but tried to keep my cool...aha...right. (I was beaming, and grinning from ear to ear and I'm sure my eyes were ready to pop out with excitement). She said she wanted me to think about it over the weekend and we'd be in touch next week. We arrived at the airport and she dropped me off, shook my hand and said 7 beautiful words, "I look forward to working with you." Don't worry that I almost danced a jig.

Now, today. I had a missed call from the manager and my heart rate doubled. I called her back, we chit chatted and then she said she would like to officially offer me the position and then, almost nervously, added unless I needed more time. Aha no...I've been thinking about it since I got there! My response, "No I don't need any more time. I accept!" And then she burst out, "OH GREAT!!!! I'm so excited! They all loved you. I can't wait to tell everyone!" Now if that doesn't make you feel good and excited, I don't know what does. I have my own office that I share with ICU dietitian. Convenient since I'm hoping to get my CNSC. Excellent, most excellent.

So, it's official. I have a job. In South Carolina. ON THE OCEAN. It's the perfect first job for me. I can't wait. Now to find an apartment and get packing.
Pinch me now because I can't believe this!!!

*PS...None of these pictures were taken by me. I refer you to Google Images.

Sliver

I stumbled upon this quote a couple of days ago as I was doing some research...

"To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream; not only plan, but also believe."– Anatole France

I needed it. Correction, NEED it.

I applied to 5 jobs on Monday, with a bright-eyed, bushy-tailed dream and hope of the east coast and enjoying the city life for a bit and the autumn colors, exploring the city, having an income, finally having a career....I could go on. Then Tuesday morning I woke up, checked my mail and saw that I had been rejected by my number one and two choices (in Boston and NYC, respectively) since I don't meet the minimum qualifications. Ouch. But then I thought about it. True statement. I'm technically not done with my internship yet so I'm not qualified. Dang. Now my patience is really being put to the test. So I felt pretty down and decided to hold off applying until I'm a little closer to graduation. Bust. I hate waiting. I want to know NOW so that I can plan, plan, plan. Drats. All I have is a bunch of "ifs."

BUT THEN.

I got an e-mail today that gave me a sliver of hope. My number one choice in Boston e-mailed to say they had received my application and it was in the process of review and if I am chosen I will be contacted in 2-4 weeks for an interview. Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat? So I went back and re-read the first e-mail, which I thought was a rejection. Not so! They just e-mailed to say they got my application....blah blah blah. It doesn't matter. The point being, THERE IS STILL A SLIVER OF HOPE!!!!!!!!!! I'm still technically not RD-eligible until May BUT if they take super long to review the applications and IF they think I'm qualified and a good fit there is a chance. THERE IS STILL A CHANCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Pleaseohpleaseohpleaseohpleaseohpleaseohpleaseohpleaseohpleaseohpleaseohpleaseohplease
ohpleaseohpleaseohpleaseohpleaseohpleaseohpleaseohpleaseohpleaseohpleaseohpleaseohplease
ohpleaseohpleaseohpleaseohpleaseohpleaseohpleaseohpleaseohpleaseohpleaseohpleaseohplease
ohpleaseohpleaseohpleaseohpleaseohpleaseohpleaseohpleaseohpleaseohpleaseOHPLEEEEEEEE
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEASE!

I realize and acknowledge that I may or may not sound slightly, or really, childish right now but if you only knew how badly I want to be in Boston maybe you could understand. Maybe.

So here's to acting, dreaming (lots of it!), planning, and believing (and praying and pleading and hoping)!
